I.S.Giovanni XXIII-Cosentino is located in Marsala, a town in Sicily, the largest of the Italian islands, in the Mediterranean Sea and one of the 20 regions of Italy. I.S.Giovanni XXIII-Cosentino is composed of three different schools: Istituto Professionale;F.Cosentino, Istituto Tecnico Tecnologico ( which are two vocational Institutes) and Liceo Classico Giovanni XXIII, a high school (where I teach) which will take part in the project.

The school is the result of the fusion of 3 types of different schools.The three schools have been united since 2013 and even if they share the same management, each of them keeps its own identity and specialization. This institution is able to bring together the best of the cultural tradition and professional skills. Liceo Classico Giovanni XXIII is a secondary high school, situated in the hearth of the city of Marsala, located in the city, historical centre. It used to be an ancient monastery. The students are 14-18 years old.The educational curriculum lasts five years and lets the students access to any kind of university. It is a humanistic school where the students study mainly Ancient Greek, Latin, literature, arts, philosophy and some scientific subjects (Mathematics, Science, Physics, Geography…). Our school has a library, a Physics laboratory, a biology lab, a computer laboratory, a media room, a linguistic room, some video rooms and Interactive Witheboards in every classroom. Students can choose among three specializations: Biomedical, Cambridge English and Legal- economical. Our classical lyceum combines, in a dynamic and constructive way, the cultural heritage of the past and the present needs in a future perspective. We invest on the students’ potential and commitment. Our mission is to develop our students’ critical sensibility and to promote their freedom of choice in life, study and work. The school organizes guided visits to the most important cultural sites and different extracurricular activities such as theatre and national competitions concerning science and literature and linguistic stages abroad . In addition, our students, during the school year, have to experience some hours of company traineeships as a part of their educational curricula. By the school approval, since 3rd June 2015 we have been a Cambridge registered International school,where International General Certificate for Secondary Education (IGCSE) are offered. Some of our students study a range of subjects leadind to IGCSE qualification in each subject studied: latin, biology, geography, English language and literature.

General Information: I.S.Giovanni XXIII-Cosentino currently has 1042 students. It has got classes from the eighth grade until the twelfth grade (the last year before university). Liceo Classico has got 20 classes (406 students) , ITT has got 16 classes (325 students), finally IPC has got 17 classes (311 students). The school has a total amount of 133 teachers and 40 people of non-teaching staff.
